SRI AMAN: Sri Aman is taking bold steps toward becoming a regional boxing development hub, with long-term plans to build a holistic sports ecosystem that nurtures young talent, strengthens sports entrepreneurship and promotes healthy community culture. Resident of Sri Aman Division, Mahra Salleh, said the division’s vision is not only to host major tournaments but also to develop systematic training pathways, accredited facilities and a strong network of certified coaches to elevate youth participation in combat sports. “We want to establish a comprehensive ecosystem, beginning with youth programmes and structured training academies. With Sri Aman’s strategic location and strong community sporting culture, we have the foundation to build a sustainable Borneo Boxing Hub,” he said during the briefing session on Wednesday. He emphasised that boxing develops discipline, emotional resilience and mental strength among youths, steering them away from negative social elements while building self-confidence. “We want to involve schools and TVET institutions so that early talent discovery can be nurtured consistently. With proper guidance, we can produce disciplined and competitive athletes,” he added. Mahra also highlighted the potential for collaboration with local and external boxing clubs through talent development programmes, competition circuits and sponsorship initiatives under corporate social responsibility (CSR). He stressed that sports should be recognised as a driver of national unity and human capital development, while creating opportunities for sports-based entrepreneurship. “Boxing is not just about victory. It teaches us how to rise after falling. These values are what we want to instil in our young generation,” he said. The initiative aligns with national efforts that position youth as key assets through healthy lifestyles, innovative entrepreneurship and strengthened community solidarity. -UKASnews |
