SIMANGGANG: The principle of lifelong learning should be embraced to bring about a knowledgeable, dynamic and competitive society capable of facing the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Adviser at the Sarawak Premier’s Office (Rural Project and Programme Monitoring) Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, said that learning should not stop after formal education but continue throughout one’s life through various means, including work experience, reading, social interaction and digital technology.

“Lifelong learning requires individuals to stay open to new knowledge, be courageous in trying new things outside their comfort zones and treat every challenge as an opportunity to learn,” she said.

Rohani, who is also the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) chairperson stressed that in today’s fast-paced digital age, the ability to evaluate and use information wisely is essential to avoid being influenced by unreliable sources.

Sharing her personal experience, Rohani revealed that despite her busy schedule, her children motivated her to further her studies.

“Even with my work commitments, my children inspired me to take up the challenge. I am now pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA/PhD) at UNIMAS.

“I believe lifelong learning brings personal growth and benefits others as well,” she added.

Rohani, who has maintained a 4.0 CGPA for two consecutive semesters, recently received the Dean’s List Award from UNIMAS.

The recognition ceremony is held annually to honour outstanding DBA students with a CGPA of 3.50 and above.

Apart from that, Rohani reiterated that lifelong learning and continuous development whether in personal education or community projects are key to building a resilient, informed and progressive Sarawak.

“Continuous learning is not just for personal success – it’s the foundation of a stronger and smarter community,” she said.
